The percussion section makes up Ranks 3 and 12, usually holding the honor of being the largest section in the 97. While far apart in rank number, they're a close knit group in every other way, on and off the field. They're always eager to welcome new members or bring enthusiasm and fun to rehearsals. It's debatable whether the drumline knows how to march any other move than directly forwards or backwards or count beyond 4, but they have a cadence for every occasion and excel at making the rest of the band have to skip at the most inconvenient moment possible. They also have the most dedication in using a blanket to throw a dink in the air and have it land on their heads!
Rank 3 Leader: Ryan Haas '29
Ryan Haas (he/him) is a sophomore studying Industrial & Systems Engineering and minoring in Business. He is from Bethlehem, PA, and has previously been a member of Rank 12. Ryan is also involved in Running Club and Pep Band.
Ryan's favorite part of the 97 is when we play Margaret and step off for tailgaiting and the cadence is booming off of the walls in the fieldhouse. He joined the 97 because he's been coming to Lehigh Football games since he was little and seeing the band perform every week was amazing and he wanted to be a part of that.
Ryan's favorite memory is putting on the uniform for the first time and doing his first tailgate. It was so rewarding and exciting!
Rank 12 Leader: Jack Jewison '28
Jack Jewison (he/him) is a junior in the IBE program, studing Electrical Engineering and Management. He is from Watertown, MN, and is also involved in LUSI, Aerial Swarms, Rossin Junior Fellows, RUF, and intramural hockey and soccer.
Jack's favorite part of the 97 is playing at flames (specifically Eco Flame). He joined the 97 to meet a lot of new people (97 of them!) who share the same interest in music.
Jack's favorite memory is getting to march in the parade at Disney World's Magic Kingdom. A fun fact about Jack is that he doesn't like any condiments on hotdogs!
